BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT
'The Garden of Imaginative Delights' was an inventive exploration of how art, media, new technology and participatory theatre can combine to provide an engaging and mind-expanding experience and contribute to new ways of learning. It was part of a programme supported by the Black Country Learning and Skills Council looking at how new media, partners from the creative industries and a consortium of education organisations can work together to enhance lifelong learning. Created by students from the Halesowen Education Consortium working with artists and media organisations, the installation was based on the Mediaonics course. This was developed by Brian Lammas and Angela Insull at Leasowes Community College in 2002 as a way to bring the arts curriculum into the 21st Century All the institutions in the Halesowen Education Consortium now deliver some aspect of Mediaonics and Halesowen College are offering an extension called Mediaonics+ from September 2004. An installation was created in the autumn of 2003 that proved so popular that a further event, specifically focussing on the learning and career opportunities for 16+ students was conceived as a way to research and develop the Mediaonics+ programme. The Garden of Imaginative Delights' was produced by Trilby Multimedia and will was webcast during the making, rehearsals and performance on this website.
